## Swiss Medical Billing Context

Switzerland uses three main systems for ambulatory medical billing:

1. **TARDOC** replaces the legacy TARMED system for fee-for-service physician billing. Each code has AL (physician) and TL (technical) point values, cumulation rules governing which codes can be billed together, and intrinsic value requirements specifying which medical specialties may bill the code.
2. **Ambulatory Forfaits** are bundled payment codes for specific procedures, offering a flat rate instead of itemized billing.
3. **ICD-10-GM** diagnosis codes justify the medical necessity of billed services. Switzerland uses the German Modification (GM) of ICD-10, version 2024.
